Who is it for?

The Foundation in Marketing is aimed at those either in a job that already involves marketing or those who wish to find out about marketing with the intention of starting out on a marketing career.

 

Entry Requirements

It is not necessary to have any previous experience or knowledge of marketing and you can choose to study in a way that suits your requirements and availability.

  1. Marketing Principles (Mandatory) – Assessed by Examination

You will learn the function of marketing and its role in an organization, as well as how the marketing mix is used to satisfy customer needs.

  1. Customer Communications (Elective) – Assessed by Assignment

You will learn the different customers that organizations have, and ways of communicating with those customers, through building a marketing communications plan.

  1. Digital Essentials (Elective) – Assessed by Assignment

You will gain an understanding of what is meant by digital marketing and the key communication tools used.

The aim is to provide the practicing marketer with relevant, contemporary marketing content to equip them for the current global landscape. Learning is brought to life through meaningful and active assessment methods which embrace the modern marketing industry.

Successful completion of this Level will establish the knowledge, skills and understanding to be able to perform at an operational level and to perform an essential and successful professional marketing role within the workplace.

 

Who is it for?

Aimed at junior marketers, those who are working in supporting marketing roles, usually within the marketing function, but also individuals in more senior roles, particularly in SMEs, where marketing is an element of their responsibilities.

 

Entry Requirements

One or more of the following is required to gain entry onto this qualification:

  • CIM Level 3 Foundation Certificate in Marketing.
  • Any relevant Level 3 qualification.
  • International Baccalaureate.
  • Professional practice (suggested one year in a marketing role) plus diagnostic assessment onto Level 4.

 

Modules Overview

  1. Marketing (Mandatory) – Assessment by Examination

You will learn the role and function of marketing in some depth, as well as what influences the behavior of your customers. You will be able to apply and adapt a marketing mix to satisfy customer needs.

  1. Integrated Communications (Mandatory) – Assessment by Assignment

You will learn the many different ways of communicating with customers, both inside and outside the organization.

  1. Digital Marketing (Elective) – Assessment by Assignment

You will learn how to apply practical knowledge, including the effective use of a digital marketing toolkit.

  1. Customer Experience (Elective) – Assessment by Portfolio

You will understand all aspects of your customers’ experience so that you can ensure you deliver expectations in a consistent way. Monitor and measure their satisfaction so that you can make appropriate improvements as necessary.

Who is it for?

Ideal for marketers who are responsible for the marketing process at an operational level (e.g. Marketing Managers), as well as those who are looking to build on the knowledge gained at Certificate in Professional Marketing level with a future marketing management role in mind.

 

Entry Requirements

One or more of the following is required to gain entry onto this qualification:

  • CIM Level 4 Certificate in Professional Marketing.
  • Any relevant Level 4 qualification.
  • Foundation Degree in Business with Marketing.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from a recognised university, with at least one third of credits coming from marketing content (ie 120 credits in Bachelor’s degrees or 60 credits in Master’s degrees).
  • Professional practice (suggested two years marketing in an operational role) plus diagnostic assessment onto Level 6.

You will learn the strategic marketing planning process, including how to evaluate and implement it through effective management of resources.

On completion of this certificate whilst you are a CIM member you will be entitled to use the designator letters ACIM.

The student will typically be operating in a wider marketing role and will be required to integrate digital solutions into the marketing plan.   • Any relevant Level 4 qualification.

  • Scope of current role is sufficient to allow engagement with assessment tasks

Modules Overview

  1. Contemporary Challenges (Mandatory) – Assessment by Work Based Assignment

This module will enable you to evaluate the potential impact of emerging contemporary marketing challenges and apply strategic thinking to develop future strategies.

  1. Leading Change (Mandatory) – Assessment by Work Based Assignment

This module will enable you to meet the challenges of change by providing a platform for supporting future responses through harnessing organizational potential and sustainable innovation.

  1. Consultancy (Elective) – Assessment by Work Based Assignment

Senior marketers often gain experience across different organizational types and sizes over the course of their career, giving them a detailed insight into a range of marketing related issues and problems. This experience, within the heart of an organization, can be developed into a consultancy role either within a large organization linking in with key clients or as an independent consultant within a marketing specialism.

  1. Managing Business Growth (Elective) – Assessment by Work Based Assignment

Growth is a key driver within any organization and developing both a structured and creative approach to determining where potential or existing opportunities exist is an essential skill for senior marketing professionals. This module is designed to enable the marketer starting with a wider view of organizations to focus down onto a specific area – ideally the one they work in or interact with in their current role, and to facilitate solutions which maximize strategic fit.

 

Qualifications Structure

  1. For the AWARD, every module will grant you an award
  2. For the QUALIFICATION, you must complete both mandatory modules and one elective module

 

How will assessments work?

There will be three assessment sessions per year taking place in: December, March/ April and June. Assessments for all modules will be an work based assignment designed to allow the candidate to address a specific real-life business issue. It is essential the candidate works within/on behalf of an organization that offers the scope to demonstrate their skills across the content of the individual modules.

A high level of individual tutorial support and peer to peer support will be required to ensure the learners intended approach fulfills the demands of the assessment in terms of content and level of skills utilized. Some assignments may include an element of self-directed assessment to ensure maximum applicability to the organization and relevance of the assessment process to the employer and learner.

Some degree of presentation preparation will form part of the assessment for the elective modules. Assignments will be restricted to taking the learner to the implementation stage of recommendations – full implementation of recommended solutions may not be possible within the learner organizations during the assessment period.
